Epicurism versus Eros

Friendship("filia") as envisioned by Epicurus is the antithesis of passion or eros, which erodes the autarky of the individual and wreaks havoc in his serenity of mind and soul, the ataraxia that god-like quality of ultime happiness that makes him disinvolved of the meandering tides of luck and disintegration, success and defeat, praise and scorn...

Ataraxia is creating a private cosmic felicity, acknowledging that nothing endures the test of time, everything fill fall apart but also that joy and happiness tempered and shaped by reason is a natural disposition of self-preservation and an act corresponding to the highness, immutuable and unperturbated existence of the gods that merits our respect and as examples should lead our life.

Friendship, unlike passion, is a safe haven for our affectionate nature, it delivers unity, solidarity and harmony among people and individuals, between men and women.

Passion is in essence a form of discord, unsettling and might be haunting: everything that's diametrical to ataraxia.

Passion is animalistic, friendship individualistic.

Passion expires and might bring doom over the individual when it suddenly ends, friendship is virtually unbreakable and shows affinity to what is infinite: if a friend dies, the memories of him will incessantly be relished and anoint the sorrow.
The one is full of swirls and insaturated dynamic needs, the latter owes much to character, responsability and reciprocal trust.

Joseph Campbell relates the context of passion/eros to the Dans of Shiva symbolism: kama(=lust) is transformed into prema(= divine love) by auto-elimination at cost of the individual, a chemical broth of reacting and consuming upon lower instincts to achieve a godly state.

This godly state is of course consumating, it reduces the individual to a drone, recipient of a sort of enlightenment, while in itself the individual was too weak and of no importance to upbreed himself and be more true to the gods by seeking distance and harmony in stead of pebble oneself into elementary forces and erase boundaries between the gods themselves and the passionate individual, who only can claim worthiness by obliteration.

Annihiliation of the individual in stead of affirmation and no virtue of distance and self-suffiency involved, unlike in Epicurism.

It's also very intrusive in manners, abject that it wants to empower not a being, but only a lower force or element that makes integral, but far from dominant and neccessary, if not cause of many discontment part of an individual.

Drift like temerity severes ataraxia.

Epicurism versus Eros, denoting that sharp antagonism between the Light of the North and the Light of the South in an Evolian-traditionalistic perspective in its most eminent extreme.
